US Home Values Rise in Second Quarter

U.S. home values increased 3.1 percent in the second quarter from the first quarter, or 13.2 percent on an annualized basis, reports Freddie Mac. For the first time since the second quarter of 2009, residential values rose in all nine regions of the firm’s Conventional Mortgage Home Price Index. The impact of home buyer tax credits, a seasonal increase in sales and record low mortgage rates helped push up prices, according to Freddie Mac deputy chief economist Amy Crews Cutts.
